What is a cinebot, and is it the same as the Bolt?

A cinebot is a six-axis industrial robot arm tuned to carry a cinema camera and repeat a move to the frame at high speed. The word comes from Mark Roberts Motion Control (MRMC), whose Bolt was marketed as the Bolt High-Speed Cinebot. When a producer asks for a cinebot, a camera robot or a robot arm, they almost always mean a Bolt.

The family: the Bolt is the original and the fastest, one meter in half a second with a 44 lb payload. The Bolt-X is the long-reach version (10'5") for full-body, fashion and vehicle moves. The Bolt Jr+ is the compact one that runs off a wall outlet and fits through a doorway. MRMC also sells the Cinebot Mini, Cinebot Nano and Cinebot Max: collaborative-robot arms with camera software added, aimed at smaller budgets. We do not carry them, because their payload, stability, repeatability and reliability are not at the level of the Bolt range. If a shoot genuinely needs a robot carried up several flights of stairs we can arrange one through a partner with one of our operators, but in our experience it is better to crane or hoist a Bolt Jr+ or a Bolt and shoot with a real one.

We run six MRMC cinebots in New York: a Bolt on track, a Bolt on a pedestal, a Bolt Jr+, two Bolt-X on track, and a Milo, the precision rig for heavy cameras. Every one of them comes with our operator and technician. Together that is the largest motion control fleet on the East Coast.

Rates as of October 2026, US dollars, per 10-hour crew day. The signed booking agreement governs.
